Surprisingly Good Guadalupe

July 16, 2008 --

The Guadalupe River was in surprisingly nice form last weekend.  A good friend, Jacob, and I put our kayaks in at the state park and floated the nine miles down to Bulverde in 3.5 hours.  We weren't lollygagging, so you might expect a longer trip.  We were forced out of the kayaks by shallow water only a handful of times, and the water was quite nice on most stretches.

The highlight was saving a baby armadillo from drowning, although when I held it up by the tail to show Jacob he fell out of his kayak in fright.  Thought he might drown himself, and I pondered the morality of being responsible for the death of a human in the course of saving the life of an armadillo.
