December 30 through January 4th. Salt Lake City is quickly becoming a favorite vacation destination for Lori and me. The city and surrounding areas are as beautiful as anywhere I've been. And our good friends the Salters are incomparable hosts.

Devil's River
An hour or so before dark on the evening of Friday, November 3rd, 2006, I pulled into the small camping area at Baker's Crossing about an hour south of Ozona, Texas to meet my friend Jay, who had arrived to set up camp a couple hours earlier. We did some last minute preparations for our two-day paddle down the Devil's River, dug into our store of dehydrated meals for a modest dinner of spaghetti, and toasted the river with a sip of Tito's vodka.
