Handing off two vehicles in Lviv. Faces obscured at the soldiers’ request.

Status

The March 2026 convoy is done. I intend to return in spring 2027. The opportunity is there; the dates are not yet set with the organizers in the UK. I am raising $15,000 — about two vehicles, purchased, repaired, driven, and handed over.

If you want to be part of that, you can give now. Every dollar goes to the vehicles and getting them there. I cover my own travel.

What this is

This is a Rotarian convoy. Volunteers buy used vehicles in the UK, put them in working order, fill them with supplies, and drive them across Europe into Ukraine. No shipping containers, no bureaucracy in the middle — keys in hand, delivered to people who need them.

The effort is organized by Rotary volunteers in the UK, with support from clubs in and around San Antonio. Gifts go through the Rotary Club of San Antonio’s foundation, a 501(c)(3).

What I have done

In March 2025 I joined the convoy for the first time. We crossed the Channel, drove through France, Germany, and Poland, and delivered vehicles in Lviv. I turned 60 on that road.

In March 2026 I went back. Same route, another birthday in Poland, another handoff in Lviv.

The full story of why, and the photographs from the road, is here: Why I’m going back to Ukraine.

What your gift does

$15,000 is the 2027 target — about two vehicles.

Along the way, any amount works:

  • $50 fills a tank
  • $150 covers a border crossing
  • $500 handles a critical repair
  • $1,000 puts real money toward a vehicle
  • $15,000 buys, repairs, and delivers two vehicles

This is not a charity with overhead and galas. It is a vehicle, a driver, and a destination.

The convoy en route to Lviv The ambulance with which I became good friends. On this particular mission, at some point my American buddy, JC, affectionately coined the term "Preston's Eleven" referring to the drivers. That's Preston in the middle, undisputably in charge of his crew. Waiting for the ferry at Dover. In addition to cars, JC and I brought with us a Ukraine-American friendship flag signed by many of the members of our Rotary Club in San Antonio Some of the crew hanging out in Lviv. On the road toward Ukraine. While Europeans drive on the right side of the road (thankfully, I say) our British vehicles had right-side steering wheels. A first for me. Lviv soldier mural. Murals of this nature are found throughout Ukraine. This one says "I will wait. I will wait both day and night. I will wait forever, for the sake of your return. At city hall in Lviv. There's sadness in knowing so much architecture across Ukraine—similar in its grandeur and importance—is being destroyed.

If you give, I will know it, and I will take you along with photos and updates as I can.
